Sesa

Musical collaboration with poet Sefora Sam

est. 2022

Antwerp based poet and spoken artist Sefora Sam is a rising star. Not only in the poetry sphere (where she has already published two books) but also through her outreach work, through which she hopes to create safe spaces for women where they can find collective healing through the arts.

My collaboration with Sesa began through the project Maisha, where we worked together to create some musical accompaniments for her spoken word performance. From the very first sessions bouncing ideas off of one another, we quickly discovered how well our artistic voices clicked, and we've been working together ever since!

Thereafter, we began working together regularly for small scale performances across Belgium. These performances provided the space for us to explore various ways of combining music and text together on stage.

This experimentation has led to the creation of several large scale works, notably our feature performances at the European Championship of Slam Poetry, performances during the Gent International Festival and our new show out(growing) pains to be premiered later in 2024.

Watch out for this one... It is going to be something special!
