Maisha In Concert

An exciting fusion of Antwerp musical cultures

Maisha is the artistic vision of Junior Akwety (singer, actor and teacher). The group was established with the intention of forming a bridge between the musical worlds of the conservatoire and the rich musical and artistic scenes existing outside the conservatoires walls in the city of Antwerp.

Each iteration of Maisha brings together musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp with up-coming singers, rappers, musicians, poets and artists from the city. Together they work on producing new music, combining their unique voices in the creation of an entirely new concert set.

While each iteration of Maisha brings together a whole new set of creatives, those who have previously participated remain in the loop, creating an ever-expanding creative network of top-class creatives.

Each year Maisha In Concert continues to grow, both in numbers and in scope. As of Summer 2025 there are 3 different active editions of the project; Maisha In Concert (conservatoire trajectory), Maisha In Concert - On Tour, and an upcoming Maisha XL In Concert, bringing together all past participants.

I participated in the very first edition of Maisha In Concert (in 2022), and at present, my role in the group is co-artistic coordination, coaching the creation process and percussion performance in public performances and tours.
As coordinator, I take responsibility for the planning and organisition of the group, while ensuring that the project runs smoothly for the students and external artists.
